PHMY volunteers at the San Antonio Food Bank

PHMY launched its first PHMY Service Day by volunteering at the San Antonio Food Bank.  Everyone in the office traded in their computers and email for hair nets and elbow grease.  Members of the firm worked in the kitchen cleaning appliances and food preparation surface, sweeping/mopping floors, and packing lunches, as well as assisting with the preparation of the next day’s baked items.  According to office manager, Jan Hodgson “A good time was had by all. We worked hard, but it was fun.” Hodgson went on to say “When I was presented with this idea, I jumped at it. It is a good team building exercise for the firm and it really helps out the food bank, it is a win win.” Through its network of partner agencies The San Antonio Food Bank served more than 28,000,000 meals last year.  Our firm felt this was a project that would have an immediate impact in an area of great need.

The Community Justice Program

The Community Justice Program is a pro bono legal clinic sponsored by the San Antonio Bar Association. This program provides free legal services to low income families through the volunteer efforts of local attorneys.

Prichard Hawkins McFarland & Young participates annually in this program as a public service to the community, and as a show of respect and appreciation for the judges and bar officials that work so hard to make this program work. This is not just a one-night appearance to give free legal advice. Rather, each lawyer represents his or her client in any one of a variety of matters: preparing a will, appearing in court with the client, obtaining a divorce decree, and doing whatever it takes to bring the legal matter to a conclusion.
